Validating numeric fields in cobol

I'm trying to work on a data vaidation program, only messing with the first field so far called "CUSTOMER-NUMBER". Somehow everytime I animate this, I get the 163 illegal char in numeric field error. The input file clearly has 4 numbers in the place of "ERROR-RECORD" - "CUSTOMER-NUMBER" but i just can't get it to go pass it.

One of a set of tools we are providing to everyone as a way of saying thank you for being a part of the community. Cd& Helpful to verify reports of your own downtime, or to double check a downed website you are trying to access. Iw ould suggest that if that is a condition that can exist, then teh numeric fields in the output should be x instead of 9 because you want to preserve the original data, and you can't spu non-numerics into teh numeric fields. You need to do the test for spaces before yu move it to a numeric field.
